Humility

I love sports.

Football , Hockey, American football, Baseball ,you name it.
I just love sports. It's very exciting and thrilling to watch a close game. It goes back and and forth
and in the end your team wins! great ha!!!
But as they say in the film " Facing the giants",
when we win we praise the Lord, and when we lose we praise the lord.

When athletes take a stand for God it even more thrills me.
After listening to some great athlete, there are words that echo in to my mind
and those are: Passion, Faith, Humility, Persistence, Courage, Commitment, Finish and intensity.

Great words all of them. It seams like in order to have a success as a player you need to implant all these
words in to your heart and in to your mind, and I would like to start with Humility!

"Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility.“
Saint Augustine (354-430);
Roman Catholic Saint

The term "humility" comes from the Latin word humilitas, a noun related to the adjective humilis, which may be translated as "humble", but also as "grounded", "from the earth", or "low".

Humility is something that is gained and practised as we grow in faith.

In the Bible, humility is the opposite of pride. Some other antonyms for humility are: arrogance, egoism, and self-importance. These are not very nice words...

"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less".
C. S. Lewis

The Lord Expects Humility

1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Humility Prophesied and Exhibited in Jesus

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Philippians 2:5-8 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Jesus when he walked on this earth was just one of us! He was born like the rest of us, he had to learn how to eat by himself, talk, walk, behave, had to be potty trained!

Examples of Humility in other People of the Bible:

Exodus 3:11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

God spoke to Moses several of times and Moses was very insecure and hesitated but God did not throw in the towel, He kept on pushing Moses!

God is doing the same with you! Even though you sometimes feel down and want to give up, God is not giving up on you. He has a plan for you and He is pushing you, making it!

Results of Humility

Psalms 149: 4 For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation.

Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom

Humility gives a leader the courage to set aside personal gain for the good of others. We need leaders, in all kind of organisations, in Churches, as presidents etc, willing to think more about the next generation. A humble person sees others as inherently valuable. Proud leaders are focused on themselves. Humble leaders are others-focused.

Remember, leadership is not a position, it's influence. So you who reading this now are a leader since you have the influences on others. At your work, at home, at church or among friends.. Let's be other-focused and try our best to put value to other peoples lives.
Let's be Humble

Debate

A year ago I saw a debate on tv between one Christian British mathematician and philosopher of science named John Lennox and an evolutionary biologist named Richard Dawkins. The two seams to know each other very well and even if they sometimes really disagree on God's existanse they seem to have a rather good relationship. It is a bit pointless to have these debate since none of them want to change their oppinion no matter how wrong or right they might be. As a follower of Christ I support Mr Lennox but I have respects towards mr Dawkins. What stroke me the other day when my wife and I were at the bookstore was the many books written by Richard Dawkins where he really tries hard to convince us that there is no God. If you are absolutely confident that there is no God, why on earth do you have to write all these books!? If people don't believe there is God, why go so hard? You don't believe in Him yet you hate Him. Psalm 14:1 The fool says in his heart, “There

Forgiven

Saul who later on changed his name to Paul was once a dangerous enemy to Christians. He did almost everything to hunt them down. Saul was a cruel man, responsible for the stoning of Stephen. In my view and in many others he deserved to be treated the same way, he deserved to die. But God had another plan for his life. God wanted him to serve as an example of grace (1 Timothy 1:13-16). Jesus reached out to Saul in a direct and startling way (Acts 9, 22, 26). Saul came to realise that the Gospel was true. He recognised the seriousness of his crimes against God On the road to Damascus Jesus revealed himself to Saul who was stunned and afraid but he did what Jesus told him to do. Blind for three days he waited. Imagine how terrified he must have been not be able to see. Not to be able to really understand what was going on. Once so feared but now so vulnerable A man named Ananias was sent by Jesus to lay hands on Saul and when he did so Saul did three specific things that

Task oriented!

I read a small article by Pastor John Ortberg from Menlo Park Presbyterian Church in California. He said that: "If you are a Pastor or a Church leader you have a calling far more important than you may know". Lots of Pastors or leaders are very "task" orientated. "The great danger in ministry is that we think about the task before us in ways that are too small!" Make budget, trying to fill up the church hall every Sunday, launching nice programs, Working hard to make the church and its vision so easy to understand and handle. We have a task all of us. Jesus said: " Go out in the entire world, go and make disciples. "Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you" Lets go out there....
