Forgiven

Saul who later on changed his name to Paul was once a dangerous enemy to Christians.
He did almost everything to hunt them down.

Saul was a cruel man, responsible for the stoning of Stephen.

In my view and in many others he deserved to be treated the same way, he deserved to die.

But God had another plan for his life. God wanted him to serve as an example of grace (1 Timothy 1:13-16). Jesus reached out to Saul in a direct and startling way (Acts 9, 22, 26). Saul came to realise that the Gospel was true. He recognised the seriousness of his crimes against God

On the road to Damascus Jesus revealed himself to Saul who was stunned and afraid but he did what Jesus told him to do.

Blind for three days he waited. Imagine how terrified he must have been not be able to see. Not to be able to really understand what was going on. Once so feared but now so vulnerable

A man named Ananias was sent by Jesus to lay hands on Saul and when he did so Saul did three specific things that are very important for us all to keep in mind:

*Saul believed on the Lord
*He repented of his sins
*He immediately was baptised

Can you imagine Saul's relief? In justice he should have been punished, and even made an example. But Saul's sins was washed away.

  1. I cannot believe this. Jesus seems very manipulative of Saul.

What if Saul didn't believe in God? Would that change anything? Would he have suffered the same treatment he gave to others?

If I only need to believe in God then that gives me more of a motive to do wrong to others. In our society it won't be punished and God will forgive me anyways.

This is just very confusing for me to wrap my mind around.

    1. Oh yes It is very often complicated what we read about in the Bible.
Saul, later on named Paul was, by ancestry, of the tribe of Benjamin. He was religiously a Jew of Judah
So he believed in God, but of cause he didn't like the Christians.

Saul did everything he could to try and stop the growth of Christianity. In fact, when Stephen was killed, Saul was there.

Why God did what he did I don't know, but the result of his teachings and what he accomplished is astonishing.

If Saul did not believe in God, well I really don't know..
